Make Up & Over Monday: Tika Sumpter

May 23, 2011

Gossip Girl actress Tika Sumpter is making a splash on and off the show for her long gorgeous tresses, smooth and youthful skin, her big bright eyes and her style.  Tika, a native New Yorker, can be spotted around town at various VIP parties and events looking effortlessly chic.  We’ve been coveting Tika’s fresh face looks  and asked makeup guru Dexter Philips, the visionary behind the makeup brand DEX New York, to give us fool-proof cheat sheet on getting Tika’s look.

For this Make Up & Over Monday tutorial, we will be using DEX New York’s high pigmented modern mineral shadows and makeup colors.  Named after prominent New York streets and landmarks, DEX New York makeup goes on effortlessly to deliver pops of color, whether bold or delicate, to achieve the desired look.  A little goes a long way so apply with a soft touch.  We also love that DEX New York is high quality makeup at the fraction of the price of  beauty counter brands.  To get Tika Sumpter’s look, follow the directions below.

Eyes:
To set the stage apply Empire State Platinum to the lid first with a flat eye shadow brush. Next, using a fluffy crease brush apply Harlem Nights Sapphire to the crease. Remember to blend for a soft transition of color between the platinum and sapphire. It gets better.

Using the same fluffy crease brush, apply Riverside Purple Sky from the outer corner in a sideward v-like shape blending to mid-way of the crease, adding dimension and connecting the crease to the lid.

Next, repeating the same step as previous, play up the drama using Wall Street Onyx, but blend only on the outer corner. For the icing on the cake, apply Bergdorf Champagne to the brow bone. Blend to highlight, and at the same time soften the crease.

Complexion:
Using a fluffy kabuki or loose powder brush, apply Jones Beach Ultra Mineral Pressed Matte Bronzer all-over face to even out skin tone.

Cheeks:
Apply Nolita Roman Mauve to the high-planes of the cheekbones. Next, using a kabuki brush, apply Mineral Luminescent Powder in Moon to the apples of cheeks for a healthy glow.

Lips:
Use Central Park West Guava lip gloss for a soft wash of lacquered color.
