The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center held its annual Spring Ball at the Pierre Hotel on the Upper East Side last Wednesday evening to raise money for the center’s Cord Blood Transplant Program. Celebrities, socialites, philanthropists and designers mingled and chatted during the cocktail reception portion before heading to the formal dining room for an elegant sit down dinner and entertainment by Grammy Award winner Cheryl Crow, who debuted her new beau at the event. The Fourth Annual Spring Ball, themed “Increasing Access – Improving Outcomes,” was co-chaired by designer Tory Burch, Shelley Carr, Jamie Tisch, and Caryn Zucker.
In attendance were elegantly dressed guests who donned some of the season’s best designers for the gala. Designer Tory Burch wore a purple strapless Vera Wang dress with green and white David Webb necklace. We spotted a few Jil Sander pieces in the room but Kelly Pasciucco gets our vote for her elegant pairing of white Oscar de la Renta top with the gorgeous orange skirt from the Spring 2011 collection. Renee Rockefeller also wore the same skirt but paired it with a red sleeveless top. Kira Faiman’s orange knee length Oscar de la Renta dress was a favorite as well. The back of the dress had a large bow that hung elegantly, making it an unforgettable dress. We also love the skinny belt accenting her waist and the black peep-toe slingbacks heels. Actress Alexandra Leighton was the bell of the ball in a black Oscar de la Renta frock with a full ball gown skirt.
Roberto Coin owner Peter Webster and Saks Fifth Avenue chairman Stephen (Steve) Sadove were also in attendance at the Society’s well attended gala, which was sponsored by Passage to Africa. The event raised over $400,000 to increase cancer survival rates through pertinent research for deadly blood cancers. Cheryl Crow, a cancer survivor herself, played an acoustic set of some of her big hits including, “All I Wanna Do,” “If It Makes You Happy,” and “First Cut is the Deepest.”
Jewelry designer David Yurman was in the lobby talking to guests. Women’s wear designer Dennis Basso‘s infectious laugh could be heard from the lobby. We also spotted Law & Order: Special Victims Unit actor Chris Meloni in the reception area chatting with friends as well.
