Design duo David and Phillipe Blond showed their Fall 2011 collection at Milk Studios in Chelsea last night. Rapper Eve, singer Keri Hilson, America’s Next Top Model’s Miss J. Alexander, Nigel Barker and Jay Mauel. Former Danity Kane singer Aubrey O’Day was front row along with Amanda Lepore.
The show commenced with a dragon dance, which signaled to the entire audience that a heavily influenced Asian collection was about to come out. The Blonds did not disappoint in the pageantry of the presentation. Models in glittery headpieces, some reminiscent of giant afros showcased one jumpsuits, dresses and corsets that Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Nikki Minaj would probably be seen in next week.
A velvet jumpsuit with a gold dragon enveloping the body, a strapless black frock with glitter fortune cookies serving as the peplum, a few glittery kimonos were all favorites of mine. I do wonder how many pounds of glitter it took to create all these looks. The collection was fun and I think it’s mostly costume wear but there were a few wearable pieces that would work for the with gutso.
