Mercedes Benz Fashion Week | Christian Siriano

September 13, 2010

There aren’t enough words in the English dictionary to describe the Christian Siriano spring 2011 collection. The Project Runway winner has come a long way since his 2008 win, becoming one of the most talked about young designers in fashion.  The collection opened with a white pant and chocolate leather jacket combo and ended with a one shoulder red gown with gorgeous ruffles all over that seemed to be floating as the model walked down the runway; and then there was everything else in between that illustrated Siriano’s summation of his collection: “A bit of African, a bit of Asian, a bit of Mediterranean-Greek.”

Christian’s collection was pure fantasy, the gowns made every girl in the room gush and gasp as confections of ruffles and tiers gracefully floated down the runway.  Spotted in the front row was Neiman Marcus’ Ken Downing, singer Jojo and model Veronica Webb, who would no doubt look fabulous in one of Siriano’s short frocks. There were crock printed short suits, chocolate and turquoise color combinations in gowns and separates, red and black combinations of pants and ruffle tops.

Favorite Looks: White Pant suit, Creme and chocolate strapless ruffle gown, white frock with a wide chocolate belt, all the shoes for Payless, croc print skirt suit.

Wearability: The look was less tranny fierce and more sophisticated glamour.  There was a little bit of something for every girl, for the one who loves standing apart from the crowd to the girl who loves understated luxury.  It’s going to take a strong woman to rock some of the statement gowns Siriano sent down the runway. We’re not even sure how one would sit in the last two gowns that went down the runway but in fashion, sacrifices must be made.
