Three Magazines, Three Girls and one Miu Miu Dress

July 21, 2010

The Miu Miu Fall 2010 collection was beautiful, youthful and sexy.  It was Miuccia Prada at her best, romancing women this fall with a pre-Summer of Love sixties inspired collection.  Deep plunging U shaped dresses in vibrant and rich autumn hues that exposed breasts, Twiggy-style silhouettes accentuating youthful legs and those square toed shoes with bows and jewels were all gorgeous.
The  collection will no doubt be getting a lot of editorials in magazines. Business boosts with every celeb snapped on the red carpet in a designer’s outfit; which makes the practice of borrowing or buying the upcoming season’s collection for celebrity clients such a do. Showing up on the red carpet in the same dress, however, is a major embarrassment, and one that usually sparks the “Who wore it better” columns. Three celebrities showing up on August covers in the same Miu Miu dress, is a major snafu. Good for the designer’s press office, bad for the magazine, who should anticipate the moves of competitors.
W magazine,  Elle UK and Vogue UK, outfitted their cover girls in the same Miu Miu dress, in different color variations of course.  UK’s Guardian caught the snafu and was quick to point it out for all to see. Eva Mendes wore the yellow version on the cover of W, Lily Allen in Lilac on Elle UK and model Freja Beha Ericsen on the cover of UK Vogue.  Lilly Allen loved the dress so much that she wanted to keep it.  Fashion insiders predict the dress will sell out immediately following its release and have crowned it Fall’s “IT” dress.  At a bank breaking $3000, I am sure fast fashion stores like H&M, Forever 21 and Zara will be making cheaper versions come late Fall.
