Sarah Burton designs first collection as Alexander McQueen Creative Director
June 30, 2010
The death of designer Alexander McQueen in February left many questions unanswered. Two of the most prominent being: Would the brand continue? and Who would take over as creative director? McQueen's right hand woman Sarah Burton took over as creative director because she was the person McQueen trusted and worked with intimately on his collections. She knew his vision and was the only person that could really carry on the McQueen brand.
Burton's first collection for Alexander McQueen was unveiled today and I must say it would have made the late designer proud. The Cruise 2011 collection, according to WWD, was inspired by Hans Bellmer’s dolls and samurai warriors. Burton said she wanted to “juxtapose the pale and the delicate with the bold and armorial. It’s about a highly structured torso that gives way to a more fluid silhouette or drop waists that lead to a finned trouser or skirt.”
