Designer Zac Posen announced earlier this year of a new collaboration with Saks Fifth Avenue to design a lower priced line dubbed Z Spoke by Zac Posen for his younger fans itching to wear one of his creations but cannot afford his $1000 and over frocks. Women's Wear Daily gave us a sneak preview of what the collection would look like and it wasn't a cheap rendition of old faves. Posen says the Z Spoke label is a departure from couture to a more industrial and simple technique of creating clothes; a key to cutting costs and making the collection affordable. But just because the collection is lower priced does not mean it's not well made.
The affordable collection includes a range of items including pants, dresses and t-shirts variations in silk, cashmere and stretch knits. Priced at a more bearable range of $78 to $675, Z Spoke by Zac Posen seeks to carve a unique niche in the market of young designers aiming at clothing a younger and more style conscious set. Posen says he wanted to create great pants and t-shirts that would become everyday staples. He's gunning for Alexander Wang and Helmut Lang, whose lower priced lines have garnered a religious following.
Zac Posen knows what he does best and that is creating a great flirty frock coveted by young Hollywood. He plans on creating a flirty dress each season for the Z Spoke collection.
"I wanted to create the ultimate new American look. I wanted to create a collection that was utilitarian and minimalist. With popping bright colors and a cleanliness of preppy quality. A collection for the other eight hours of the day," said Posen.
The Z Spoke by Zac Posen is currently available exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue.
