Chasing the Cartier Baignoire Watch

January 20, 2010

My friend Agatha and I had a girl’s day on Saturday starting with brunch in Dupont Circle at Circa. If you haven’t tried brunch at Circa, I recommend you go and try the eggs benedict Atlantic with salman and asparagus.  Make sure you finish it off with a cup of coffee and a shot of Jameson. We then headed to Mazza Gallerie in Friendship Heights to pick up a purchase a Tiffany & Co.

We then proceeded to window shopping at Louis Vuitton, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo and Cartier for things on our wishlists.  I got a bit of education at the Louis Vuitton store on the Speedy 25, 30, 35 and the Neverful bags. I also learned about how to spot fakes.  I was heart broken when Jimmy Choo didn’t have the green snakeskin Glenys I’ve always wanted.
Cartier was another story.  I wish I had a significant other so that I could wear a fabulous diamond from the House of Cartier. Agatha wanted to try on a few watches to see which one she really wanted to get as an investment piece.  I am partial to the Tank since it’s such an American classic.  Jackie O was a huge fan on the Tank watch.  The Cartier sales associate showed us a few watches but what caught my eye was the Baignoire, an oval watch set in 18kt white gold circular-grained crown that can also come with round-cut diamonds.

The Baignoire is a classic watch as well but has been updated with a thinner face and a more flattering silhouette to fit perfectly on the wrist. It is perfect as an everyday watch.  I would love to add this to my Tank as a secondary watch but I think I want the 18kt gold bracelet instead of leather as an evening watch. The diamond Baignoire is about $35,000 but the gold and leather is $13,000.
