Steep vs Cheap: Isabel Marant Otway Studded Booties

December 30, 2009

According to the Wall Street Journal, this is the “IT” shoe of 2009. The Isabel Marant Otway ankle boots sold out the minute they hit stores. Sold at a whopping $1,295, only those with enough cash to burn were able to snag these babies. What can I say, the shoes are ferocious. The Otway ankle boots have everything going for them. They are suede, cuffed, studded, and look very comfortable with a four-inch triangle heel that I could probably walk in all day. These shoes look a bit too simple to be the “IT” shoe. So why are they so hot?
Well for starters the French designer Isabel Marant, a veteran designer, was re-introduced two seasons ago to Americans by Rihanna and Cameron Diaz. Anything Rihanna wears is a covetable item. Second, Marant’s collections are super exclusive because she’s banned online sales and she does not allow mark downs or photos of her collections posted online. Yup, you have to be in the know to grab anything from her. We always want what we can’t have right? The designer also limits the size of her orders, meaning you won’t see a slew of people walking down K Street with her stuff on.

What is a girl to do with all this exclusivity? I want to slip my feet into a pair of cuffed and studded ankle booties but I, unlike Rihanna, Cameron and Sienna Miller, do not want to pay $1,295 for them. Which is why I am happy to report that I have found the exact replica of the Isabel Marant Otway booties for a fraction of the cost. Sure sure I might be sacrificing the “name” and the quality but the Rose Gold Halle Studded Bootie is a beauty at the digestible price of $295. I might be able to afford Marant’s collections someday but for now, I think I’ll settle with the copy.
