Rihanna in Military Couture for "Hard" video

December 21, 2009

It’s three for three in my review of the new Rihanna album Rated R. Rihanna’s new single “Hard” just dropped and to my surprise, I am actually loving it. I refuse to buy entire albums until I’ve really heard a majority of the songs. In any case, the video for “Hard” is such a treat. Rihanna rocks some very provocative military inspired couture pieces that pay homage to hip hop. The song is on a different tangent that the haunting “Russian Roulette” with up tempo beats, hip shaking Reggae inspired rhythms and bass bumpin’ hip hop beats. Rihanna says “Hard” gave her album the swagger it needed.

“Funny enough, when I first heard the song, we were in Paris — they flew out there to play me some songs they had done for me, some ideas. And before they played ‘Hard,’ they were like, ‘We’re gonna play you the ghetto one first, and you have to do it, you have to do it,’ ” Rihanna said on set. “They thought I wouldn’t like it, and when I heard it, I just loved it. It had such an attitude and a swagger … super cocky and just a fun song. We just thought it was the perfect song for Jeezy [to do a verse on]. It was made for him to collaborate on it. And I think he did an amazing job.”[Rihanna]

The song is pretty catchy with rap lyrics by Young Jeezy. I love the part Rihanna gives a shout out to the bloggers at the end. Check out the Franz Gold aviator sunglasses by Mykita Bernhard Willhelm, which coincidentally are the same ones Sarah Jessica Parker wears in the Sex and the City 2 movie.
