All eyes might be on Michelle Obama tonight at the first White House state dinner, as the first family hosts Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and his wife, Gursharan Kaur, but her staff certainly know how to stand out from the crowd.
White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers, whose style tends to be more daring and a bit avant garde but never garish, chose a decadent ivory gown by Commes Des Garcons. Rai Kawakubo rejoice for you have made it to the White House. I’m not in the least bit surprised that Miss Rogers chose Kawakubo’s Fall 2009 long sleeved ivory gown with pearl drapery and loops on the front. She wore Loewe to the Corcoran Gallery of Art Ball this past spring. I love the dusty rose Louboutins that compliment the gown.
Kudos goes out to Robin Givhan for spotting the designer of Miss Roger’s dress. Politico’s Nia-Malika Henderson reports that:
Desiree Rogers arrived at about 6:53 pm and stopped briefly to chat. Rogers said “We are very excited…everything looks great.”
Robin “show off” Givhan, who is standing next to your pooler asked what everyone wanted to ask: “Are you wearing Comme Des Garcons?”
“Of course,” Rogers replied.
Rogers’ multilayered dress was nude in color, had pearls in between two layers of fabric…

I wish I could be at the White House mingling with the likes of Spielberg and Jennifer Hudson instead of watching a very disappointing finale of Dancing with the Stars, where Donnie “I’m so old, I can’t shake my hips” Osborne walks away with the Mirror Ball trophy.
What a sweet way to express the hideousness of that dress. She certainly did stand out from the rest. Oddly enough the fake cheerleader from Bravo who has been in the news had on the loveliest outfit of the evening, don't you think. Nice blog BTW. Do you know if Jeffrey Imelt was at Ms. Rogers' table?
Um…that gown which Desiree is wearing…Michelle does not need to worry a bit..she looks like a roll of toilet paper which somehow got mixed up and thrown in with the white wash…

Well well well, granny has pearls on her apron. That dress is hideous, as well as extremely garish, and we all know it. Plus it shows the fold of fat at her waist.

You people are ridiculous with the insults. Clearly anyone commenting negatively about her dress have no taste in style or class. The dress was beautiful. There is no fold on her waist either, it's just the angle of the picture that was taken. I would love to see any of you people wearing something like that or maybe you couldn't because it would look hideous on you perhaps. Give me a break!
Hey Anon 3:37 give us a break!! typical modern crap … throw any scraps of material together and call it high fashion even it has the tailoring or style of a burlap sack. Pleeease when can we stop being PC and just honestly say that rags stitched together any old way is NOT high fashion, no matter who makes it or who wears it! Clothes should always be pleasing to the eye and uplfting to the soul. Sorry anyone who thinks that dress is beautiful is the one with no style and no class!!

it barely worked on the runway and it's definitely NOT working on her figure at all… beyond hideous. Not sure I enjoy her vibe either- she appears to be somebody who likes to bang power… I could be wrong, but something doesn't sit well whenever I see her– and they've been showing her too often… back to the trenches Desiree
I think when I was nursing my son I used to wear padding like that on the front of my dress, to catch the leaks. Either that, or she just got out of the kitchen and forgot to remove the table cloth she stuffed down her dress. I can appreciate an avant garde dress, but this one doesn't even flatter her shape — it bubbles out in front, it hangs down in the wrong places, and what is that body stocking she has underneath that wrinkles in the wrong places? Sorry, this is just hiddeous.
