Michelle Obama at Greater DC Cares Luncheon

June 18, 2009

It’s been my mission since the inauguration to find and meet the First Lady Michelle Obama. That chance came on Tuesday when I got an assignment to cover her speech during the Greater DC Cares Business and Nonprofit Philanthropy luncheon at the Washington Renaissance Hotel downtown. As soon as the program started, everyone knew why everyone else was there. It wasn’t to see who won the awards or what was on the menu. The entire room was anticipating the arrival of First Lady Michelle Obama.

Mrs. O received a standing O when she took the stage with thunderous applause that lasted for what seemed to be an eternity. The first lady was wearing a tweed jacket, pink top underneath, a clear belt with pink buckle and a black skirt. I am not sure which designer is responsible for the black pencil skirt but I know that the tweed jacket is from the Thakoon resort 2009 collection.

I have two videos of the First Lady’s speech coming up later today, where she talks about volunteerism. Stay tuned.
