Hey shoppers! Discovering hidden gems in the city is one of my new year’s resolutions. I stopped by Urban Chic on Wisconsin Avenue last weekend and on my way out the door, I noticed another boutique I rarely hear about next door. The name of the boutique is Tabar and it’s absolutely charming. On this quite Sunday afternoon, I ventured into the boutique and was greeted by a friendly woman who asked me if I’d ever been there before. After my reply of “no,” she began to tell me the story behind the store.
The owner of the store designs these cute leather handbags and gets them made in Morocco by a a family that has been making leather handbags for generations. The pyramid handbags are the perfect little accessory for those looking for something different. As a trendsetter, I immediately fell in love with these bags. They aren’t that expensive either. The pyramid bags were on sale for around $60. You have to go in to this store to experience its charm.
Tabar also carries a good selection of cocktail dresses, silk tops and other leather accessories. What makes their clothes so different from most of the boutiques in the city is the fact that you the items are not sold anywhere else in the city. The boutique owner buys one of each piece in three different sizes and once they are sold, that’s it. There will be only three people in the city with your dress or top and the likelihood of running in to this person on the street is pretty slim. The dresses and tops are made in Brazil and are exquisite. Detailed beading and lustrious silk are all impeccably crafted into fine and ultra unique apparel for those looking for something a bit different and chic.
