Wunderkind Christian Siriano took Project Runway by storm with his flamboyant personality and innovative designs. Since winning Project Runway, the doors have finally opened for 22-year-old Siriano. Celebrities, boutiques and television shows are vying for Christian Siriano’s designs. Victoria Beckham wore a dress designed by Siriano on her show, he is designing a gown for Vanessa Williams’ character on Ugly Betty and Cameron Diaz has told him personally that she is a fan. Siriano’s stock just keeps rising and rising. He just signed a deal to design a collection exclusively for Bluefly.com and will be designing Uma Thurman’s clothes for the upcoming movie Eloise in Paris.
Siriano wants to follow in the footsteps of fashion newcomers Rodarte and Proenza Schouler. Instead of selling his Project Runway finale collection, Siriano is waiting to create a dazzling and perfect collection. Siriano has been touted as his generation’s Marc Jacobs, a huge compliment that came from Tim Gunn, PR’s host and chief creative officer of Liz Claiborne.
“In my 29 years of teaching young designers, I have never met a fashion prodigy – until Christian,” says Tim Gunn about Siriano in an interview for Elle magazine. “I believe that he is his generation’s Marc Jacobs.”
