Fashion’s wild child Comme des Garçons and French luxury brand Louis Vuitton will collaborate to open a joint store in Tokyo this September. The marriage of this unlikely couple came about because of Rei Kawakubo, designer behind Comme des Garçons and Yves Carcelle, chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton. Kawakubo will design six handbags in Vuitton’s signature monogram pattern for the pop up store that will operate for about three months.
Carcelle is excited about the idea of celebrating Louis Vuitton’s 30 year anniversary of its first store opening in Japan.
Both parties seem pretty excited. Kawakubo approached Loui Vuitton about the collaboration because of the brands influence on Kawakubo’s fashion career. “It is impossible to overstate Rei Kawakubo’s influence on modern fashion,” said Marc Jacobs, artistic director of Louis Vuitton, in a statement. “I find it wonderful to think that 30 years ago, this immense talent, someone who has inspired so many others, was inspired by Louis Vuitton.”
The bags will be sold exclusively in Japan so unless you can afford to fly over to Tokyo for shopping extravaganza, your best bet is to purchase Comme des Garçons’ line for H&M that hits stores in November. [The Moment]
