Bachelor’s & Spinsters Ball

March 23, 2008

On Saturday, April 5, local bachelors and some of D.C.’s sexiest spinsters will dance the night away at the annual Bachelors and Spinsters Ball at the City Tavern in Georgetown. Yes ma’m, over 300 singles and divorcees mix and mingle in a night not to be forgotten anytime soon. With sponsors like Grey Goose Vodka, Bombay Saphire, Kenton Karrow, Ferrari Maserati and more, this invitation-only event will not disappoint.

The silent auction will benefit the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (T.A.P.S.), an organization that provides a wonderful support network for the surviving families of those who have died in service to America. Proceeds from the Bachelors and Spinsters Ball will benefit ThanksUSA, a charitable effort to mobilize Americans of all ages to “thank” the men and women of the United States armed forces by providing college, technical and vocational school scholarships for their children and spouses.

Chris van Roijen has chaired this invitation-only event for the past 29 years and this year will be no exception. This year’s committee includes a diverse group of young social singles. Lucky enough to have received an invite? What will you be wearing? Here are a couple of ideas.

Black is never boring, however, break the monotony and go for a navy gown, it’s a lot bolder than black and still elegant. The sculpting around the waist of this BCBG gown is very figure flattering. I love the color contrast. Opt for silver or gold accessories. I suggest a Ralph Lauren inspired look: gold shoes, gold clutch and gold earrings. This dress give you the opportunity to shine, in jewelry of course. YOWZA!!! Be the belle of the ball in this royal purple stunner. Men’s mouths will water in this Marc Bouwer Glamit! Three-Broach Evening Gown. Just look at the back of this dress. Again the ruching on the dress is flattering. I love the silhouette too. You don’t need much here with this gown. Simple is better. Go for a silver black clutch and black shoes and don’t try to be too matchy.

Be a golden girl for the night in this yellow Nicole Miller gown. First of all, Nicole Miller is one of my favorite dress designers. She makes amazing dresses that are timeless and still trendy. I love this yellow. The color will not work on everyone but if you have a tan come April or dark skin, this is the dress for you. Make sure you go with silver accessories.

All these clutches are available at Neiman Marcus
