On February 14th of every year, candy, flowers and cards are exchanged between loved ones all in the name of Saint Valentine. The truth is the mainstream media has fabricated February 14 as a ‘for lovers only’ day. One more year has gone by and it’s Valentine’s Day again. For most single girls, this is the day to be depressed over not receiving flowers, candy or a date. Why is it that we make such a big deal about one day? On this day, greeting cards become the currency between lovers, friends and even co-workers. Hallmark greeting cards run rampant in the streets and expressions of love are exchanged at a faster rate than transactions on Wall Street. Valentine ‘s Day has become so commercialized that most single gals just want to climb under a rock until February 15. I say enough is enough. ‘Singles Awareness Day’ or Valentine’s day should be about love in general. We should be advocating not just sentimental love between lovers but self love, motherly love, brotherly love and whatever love you can think of. Single Glamour Girls should rejoice in the fact that they are a year wiser, more self aware, more stylish, have more freedom to do anything and everything.
In the spirit of self love, I, GG, will give you some great reasons to celebrate St. Valentine’s day on your own terms. Instead of sitting around groaning over lost loves or the lack there of, why not have a girls dinner with your single girls? Last year, my friends and I enjoyed a sumptuous multi course dinner at Café Milano accompanied by dancing and flirting. There are so many things going on in the city that you don’t even need to wait until February 14th. Why not start right now.
Celebrate you LOVE of fashion by taking a trip to the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York from February 1st to the 8th with some girlfriends. Join the thousands of fashion loving glamazons as they scury about in four inch Manolos and Christian Louboutin heels to watch runway shows by Matthew Williamson, HEver Leger, Monique Lhuillier, 3.1 Philip Lim, Temperly London, Zac Posen, Carmen Marc Valvo etc. Better yet, try to score a seat at the Project Runway grand finale.
