The Art of Letter Writing

February 18, 2008

Letter writing to become a lost art. As expedient as e-mailing or gchating can be, it is sometimes courteous and special to send a hand written note to friend, parent or siblings. My friend Daniel, a journalist, and I were discussing the art of letter writing over brunch this afternoon at Rugby Food & Spirits. He lives in Bristow, VA at the moment so the distance gives me a reason to send him a nice hand written note instead of an e-mail. When I lived in Ghana, we had no choice but to just write letters to loved ones abroad. When I came to the United States, I noticed that this art form was not ‘Trendy.’ Yes there is an art to letter writing and every well-bred woman should know how.

It is imperative to get personalized stationary to send thank you notes or a quick letter to friends and family. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just some hard cardstock paper with your name on it. Personalized stationary are so chic and fun. You don’t have to be a graphic artist to design one. Simply log on to the internet and you can find one a store that can walk you through choosing and designing your own. The best part about stationary is that you can show off your personality. I order my stationary through Fine Stationary.com. You can also go to the stationary stores like The Paper Source, around the city to get one on one help from a professional. Remember, it is definitely a DO to send a quick handwritten note to the hostess of a party or as a follow-up to an interview.
