Get the Beauty Look: Julie Bowen at the 2012 Emmy Awards

September 25, 2012

Celebrity makeup artist Heather Currie created Julie Bowen’s pretty-with-an-edge look for tonight’s Emmy Awards, and she used Clarins products to do it.  Here’s the step-by-step tutorial.

“I’m lucky to work with Julie Bowen who has beautiful, even skin… I began by prepping her skin with Clarins Extra-Firming Day Cream and Clarins Total Eye Concentrate.  I then applied Clarins Beauty Flash Balm with a wet sponge evenly on her face and neck. This is my new favorite product because, not only can it act as a primer, but it’s great to use throughout the day if touch ups are necessary.

Next, I mixed two shades of sheer foundation with a wet sponge: Clarins Skin Illusion Foundation in Chestnut 113 and in cream 104. I also used Clarins Instant Light Brush-On Perfector in 00 Light Beige under her eyes to perfect her skin.

Julie always looks great with a smoky eye! I started with black and grey, try Clarins Eye Quartet Mineral Palette in Graphites, and smudge the colors along the lash line. Then, I applied a chocolate shadow, Ombre Minérale Mono Eyeshadow in Dark Chocolate, along the crease area. Next, I highlighted the area just under the brow bone with a soft white shimmer. Use Clarins Instant Liner in black along the lash line to emphasize lashes. Finish with mascara, like the Instant Definition Mascara in black. Lastly, I defined her brows with a brow pencil, try Clarins Eyebrow Pencil in Soft Blonde.

For her cheeks, I used a tawny nude with pink shimmer – like Blush Prodige Cheek Colour in Sunset Coral, and focused mostly on the apples of the cheek to give a dewy glow. Apply the blush with a brush making sure to blend well. I also like to use a bronzer to act as a contour, and I put it all along the areas of the face that would naturally be contoured (cheekbones, under jaw area). You can try Bronzing Duo SPF 15 Mineral Powder Compact.

Because the focus of the look was Julie’s eyes, I didn’t want too much color on her lips. I used a lipliner like the Clarins Lip Definer in Nude, and a gloss with just a hint of a blush color – Gloss Prodige Lip Gloss in Candy.

Once the mascara was dry and everything was finished, I sprayed Clarins Fix’Makeup to set the look.

My last – and best – tip to all my clients leaving for the red carpet is to put the Clarins Instant Smooth Line Correcting Concentrate in their clutches. Perfect to help keep your skin looking matte all night, without layering on additional powder, which can make you look cakey!”
