Since my engagement in July, you’ve asked me how wedding planning is going. Well aside from sending out wedding announcements and asking for addresses, every other wedding activity has taken a backseat while we navigate life in Texas for the next three months. We have mapped out how we want the wedding to look as well as elements we want included but we have not hired a wedding planner to help us just yet. It didn’t seem like a proper Glamazon wedding without a party.

This past weekend, we went to visit my two besties and their hubbies in Austin and they decided to throw us an engagement party. Though it was just the six of us, it was just what I needed. Kate and Jill decorated the dining room with the most lovely bridal decor and served up unlimited amounts of champagne, cocktails and a decadent cheese plate while the boys grilled steaks in the backyard for dinner.

What to wear to an intimate engagement party

It was the perfect occasion to debut two engagement party dresses I was gifted by David’s Bridal. After a trip to Virginia in August to visit my family, I brought home my high school sociology project, which included a wedding planning section. Back then, I was so ambitious with this project that I ordered an actual wedding planning book and went through the entire planning process to get an A+.

I went to David’s Bridal to get quotes on wedding gowns, mother of the bride dresses and bridesmaids dresses. The consultants were kind enough to indulge a then 17 year-old kid and helped me stick to my wedding budget.

Fast forward to 2020 and I’m planning my real life wedding and we’ve come full circle. I am proud to announce that I am a David’s Bridal Ambassador. For the next few months, I’ll be taking you along on my wedding planning journey. From wedding dress shopping, bridesmaids proposals, bachelorette shindigs and everything in between, I’ll dish about my favorite dresses and how to plan fabulous intimate get-togethers during this crazy year we’re having.

For my engagement party, I wore two gorgeous dresses from David’s Bridal. The first was this Mikado High-Low Wedding Dress by DB Studio. It’s so flattering on the body and made for twirling. It also comes with straps for extra support, even though I didn’t need them. This dress is also size inclusive. It comes in plus size as well and goes up to size 30W.

I styled the dress for colder weather by adding this tulle topper underneath to make it look like a long sleeved gown. You could even step it up another notch by adding an embellished belt like this one. I added these chic yet comfy crystal mesh sandal heels by Badgley Mischka to complete my look.

It wouldn’t be a Glamazon celebration without a second look so I changed out of my fancier frock for this romantic tulle love note dress by Melissa Sweet. How darling is the calligraphy messaging on the dress? I twirled in this all night and even through our impromptu dance party that lasted until 3:30am. The dress also comes in size 0-14 and retails for $349.
