Ethan Hawke returned to Broadway, well Off-Broadway, in the Clive, which is creating a lot of buzz in Manhattan. Fittingly so, the actor covers the Spring issue of Gotham magazine, even though the play ends this weekend (run see it before it’s gone).
The 42-year-old actor chatted with the mag about his opinion on Oscar winners.
“People want to turn everything in this country into a competition…it’s clear who the winner is and who the loser is,” Ethan said. “It’s why they like to announce the grosses of movies because it’s a way of saying this one is number one. It’s so asinine even if you look at how many forgettable, stupid, movies have won Oscars and how many mediocre performers have Oscars above their fireplace. Making a priority of chasing these fake carrots and money and dubious accolades, I think it’s really destructive.”
BURN! And with that said, I bet Ethan would be elated to have one of those golden statues on his fireplace.
