Wunderkind Nicola Formichetti made a name for himself dressing Lady Gaga, whose crazy costumes make the front pages of magazines each time she steps outside her house. Formichetti was rewarded for his avant garde designs with a creative director position for Lady Gaga favorite Thierry Mugler. In the three seasons he’s been at the healm of the label, Formicetti has not disappointed critics. For the past week, various celebrities, including Coco Rocha and Kim Kardashian have given us sneak peaks at the Formicetti’s first handbag collection for the brand. Today, we got a load of the entire collection, which launches in February.
The Nicola Formicetti handbag collection for Thierry Mugler – retailing between $1,050 and $18,000 – will be available at Barney’s New York, Maxfield, Opening Ceremony, Patron of the New, and Joan Shepp, as well as e-commerce sites like Shopbop and Moda Operandi. The 30-piece collection, according to Formicetti, was created as a way to put in the hands of influencers and fans, a sculptural 3D piece of the Mugler world.
“This is now my 4th collection as creative director of Mugler, and following the evolution of the brand, I was interested in creating sculptured objects in 3D, a piece of the Mugler world that one can carry around, an element that completes the look.”
The bags comes with names like Agent 10, Dr. Mugler, Muglerette clutch, Naboo and small, medium and large Muglerette.
