Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge Wears Alexander McQueen to “Night of Heroes: The Sun Military Awards”

December 21, 2011

Eat your petty little hearts out you nay sayers! The Duchess of Cambridge kicked her style quotient up another notch when she donned a velvet Alexander McQueen gown to the “Night of Heroes: The Sun Military Awards” in London on Monday night.

The 29 year-old Catherine, has kept the fashion world on its toes since her wedding in April and it seems like there is no slowing down for this quiet lady.  She brunette beauty accompanied her husband, Prince William and brother-in-law Prince Harry for the awards dinner celebrating members of the military.

The gown was a modified version of the now sold out Alexander McQueen Strapless Velvet Gown ($6,850).  The original gown had a sheer chiffon skirt and no embellishment on the bust.  Kate changed the gown to a full velvet skirt and a ruffled sweetheart bust.

Adorning her neck was an ornate starburst diamond necklace and a complimenting bracelet on her wrist, that were wedding presents from a close friend.  She wore black suede Prada Platform Pumps ($720) and carried a Pretty Ballerina, designed by Jaime Mascaró.

In my opinion, this is Kate’s best look, bringing back velvet in full force, which some are comparing to Princess Diana’s velvet gown worn for a shoot with Mario Testino.  Kate’s hair also appears a smidge darker, which I absolutely adore and that much coveted length is simply stunning.  Her makeup is flawless as always with a more smokier eye and more flush on her cheeks.
