For women of color with relaxed or natural hair achieving a dynamic long-lasting look with heat styling may be challenging. Don’t fret or even worry, Celebrity Stylist and SoftSheen-Carson Artistic Director Johnny Wright is “hair” to the rescue with quick and easy steps for a straight sleek look using Optimum Care Salon Collection Heat Protection Polisher. Priced under $7.00, this new dual-purpose formula helps strengthen and protect textured hair from heat styling with ceramides and coconut oil, giving hair superior smoothness. It also fights humidity and reversion by sealing the hair cuticle.

RELAXED HAIR

On damp hair, before blow drying, apply a small amount of the polisher from root to tip.  Since chemically-treated hair is prone to breakage, choose a leave-in nourishing heat protector such as Optimum Care Salon Collection Heat Protection Polisher which contains strengthening ceramides to protect against breakage.

Use a high quality titanium or ceramic flat iron with adjustable heat controls. Since relaxed hair is already straight, use only the minimum level of heat to get a smooth, silky finish.

Separate hair into one-inch sections and glide the iron through small sections at a time.

Remember movement is essential. Use even, fluid strokes along strands, and don’t hold heat in one place to prevent damage and deliver divine results. For relaxed hair, just a few “finishing” passes is enough.

After style has been achieved, use just a dime-sized amount of Optimum Care Salon Collection Heat Protection Polisher as a finishing agent to protect the hair.

NATURAL HAIR
On natural hair, apply a thermal protectant such as Optimum Care Salon Collection Heat Protection Polisher that contains a moisturizing agent, like coconut oil, on damp hair prior to blow-drying to smooth the cuticles and protect the hair.

Blow dry hair smooth with a round roller brush.
Afterwards, use a high quality titanium or ceramic flat iron with adjustable heat controls. However, even with natural hair, try to keep the maximum flatiron temperature under 400 degrees.

Separate hair into one-inch sections and glide the iron through strands a section at a time.

Style as usual. Remember to use even, fluid strokes along strands, and don’t hold heat in one place to prevent damage and deliver divine results.

Finish with Optimum Care Salon Collection Heat Protection Polisher to fight humidity and add a natural shine.
