Gossip Girl starlet Blake Lively is having the best year ever. The leggy 23 year-old blonde bombshell was quoted in the New York Times Sunday Styles section saying, “I had other opportunities and I would say, ‘Thank you so much, but I am holding out for Chanel. That’s who I want to be the face of. And people would say, ‘Well, that’s unrealistic, they only hire Europeans,’ and I said: ‘Well, how great. I’ll be the first then.'” Good things comes to those who wait. Ms. Lively, who rarely lands on the Worst Dressed list was plucked by Michael Kors early in her career, nurtured by Anna Wintour and nabbed by Karl Lagerfeld to star in the Chanel Mademoiselle accessories campaign for Spring 2011.
Ms. Lively says she doesn’t hire stylists to dress her because “If someone else dressed me, it’s them interpreting me, but the truth is, people don’t know me.” She has as much fun picking out the latest pieces from Style.com photos as she does shopping at her favorite shoe label, Christian Louboutin. Fashion critics have touted her as the sophisticated American girl with class, grace and style and perfectly suited for the Chanel campaign; as a rare gem that doesn’t come along often. Mr. Kors said, “You can say she’s a California blonde, but she is very sophisticated and that’s a rare combo. It’s Lauren Hutton. It’s Farrah Fawcett. They don’t come along that often.”
Shot by Chanel creative director Karl Lagefeld himself, Ms. Lively sheds her bubbly personality for a more serious, sexy and youthful look for her first Chanel advertising campaign. Her golden locks are muted with flecks of red highlights to compliment the bag she is wearing in the photo. Ms. Lively has a future in modeling if she begins to lose interest in fashion. Her advertising campaign will start airing this week in fashion publications.
