Last night’s Academy Award ceremony was a lot better than I had anticipated it to be. For starters many critics predicted that most starlets would tone down their ensemble to reflect the waning economy. Boy am I glad that was not the case. Award nominees pulled out all the stops to tastefully dress for this special occasion in frocks reminiscent of old Hollywood. Both young and old Hollywood was represented in full force. New comers to the awards ceremony, Melissa George, Taraji P. Henson and Vanessa Hudgens looked radiant in white, cream and black mermaid style dresses. For one night these ladies embraced their curves and strutted on the red carpet in body conscious yet sophisticated gowns fit for Hollywood royalty. What made the gorgeous confections stand out were the accessories. Big bracelets and lots of bling was the theme and many embraced this trend. Tilda Swinton layered gold bangles, Angelina Jolie accented her black dress with big green baubles by Loraine Schwartz and Penelope Cruz wore over $3 million worth of jewels. So what did we learn from the Oscars? Color enhances everything and sometimes less is more.
