Runway Rundown: Rachel Roy

September 5, 2008

Designer Rachel Roy previewed her Spring 09 collection at New York fashion week to mixed reviews from fashion editors and critics. The new mom and wife of Damon Dash’s collection was a mix of vibrant colored frocks and neutral pieces with whacky prints. Roy’s collection was nothing out of the ordinary but she did manage to sneak in a few pieces that were stellar. A lot of her dresses had draping in places that would not be flattering for the average woman.

Most of her pieces were things that have already done on the runways in previous seasons but to her credit, some of her shorter dresses were cute. The long sleeved blue gown resembled the Calvin Klein dress Hillary Swank wore to the Oscars and the green print frilly dress looked like one of Diane von Furstenberg’s dresses from last season.

A few standout pieces in Rachel Roy’s collection were an ruffled trimmed cream mini dress paired with a cream polka dot jacket, a cream v neck jumpsuit with a sash and a blue shorts and blazer set. Roy’s collection is definitely reminiscent of the ’80s but the collection lacked the wow factor.
