gapBoom! After hints and rumors swirling that Gap and Intermix were working on a collaboration, Women’s Wear Daily just announced that the former has bought the latter for $130 million dollars.  Gap, which also owns, Piperlime, Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta, adds a luxury retailer to its expanding portfolio.

So what does this mean for you? For starters, Intermix will continue to expand its brick-and-mortar stores, making it easier to go into its boutiques around the country to try on brands you are unfamiliar with before ordering online.  Intermix will also look to expand internationally.  The boutique and its e-commerce site will have more synergy. You can buy something online and be able to pick it up in a store closest to you.

Intermix is also hoping to create offer menswear and introduce a private label collection.  The boutique’s co-founder Khajak Keledjian told WWD that the new venture “will let us focus more on product, merchandising and innovation.”
