When it comes to iconic bags, the Kelly and the Birkin, both by Hermes are on the top of our lists and probably on the list of a lot of women. Though these bags are out of budget for many of us, we still dream about them and hope to own one in the future.
Owning an Hermes bag and having one named after you are two entirely different things, with the latter being the more prestigious. So we’re baffled to hear that model Claudia Schiffer said no to having an Hermes bag named after her.
For the Spring/Summer 2013 issue of Elle Collections, the magazine asked some of the Nineties supermodesls what they would tell their 17-year-old selves if they had the opportunity. Amber Valetta, Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer contributed their advice.
Schiffer said, she would tell her teenage self that, ““In five years time Hermès will ask if they can name a bag after you, as they have Kelly and Birkin. Ignore your agent and say ‘Yes’.” We hope she fired that agent. In the words of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, “Big Mistake! BIG!”
