The art of letter writing is getting lost to rapid quick fire electronic mail. Which is a bummer because nothing beats getting a fine letter written from a friend or lover in the mail. Letter writing was something I grew up with while growing up in Ghana as a child with parents overseas. I am of the group that still buys personalized stationary to write thank you notes and letters to long distance friends. So I was elated when news broke that Louis Vuitton is launching a letter writing collection, including writing instruments and paper products.

For the Louis Vuitton writing collection, which took two years to develop, designers drew inspiration from literary greats like Ernest Hemingway and 17th-century French novelists. It are elegant envelopes with trunk closures illustrated on the flaps, lavish alligator leather encased fountain pens with modern innovations, all of which can be personalized with engravings. There is even a bespoke stationary set. In the fountains pens is a patented mechanism that protects the inside cartridges from leakage due to pressure changes from air travel. Penning that love letter in ink is suddenly so chic and romantic again n’est-ce pas?

Also included in the collection are luxury pens and pencils ranging from ballpoint, pencil and roller formate in different shapes and designs. There are also notebooks and other paper products to tickle ones fancy. The Louis Vuitton writing collection launches December 13 with a pop-up boutique at 6 Place Saint-Germain-des-Prés called Le Cabinet d’Ecriture Louis Vuitton (or Louis Vuitton’s writing room, in English).

The collection is priced between $44.50 for a pot of ink to $2,220 for an alligator fountain pen with a piston-filling system. It will cost you a lot more for the small trunks designed to store all the writing gear. Perfect for holiday gifting if I do say so myself.
