Alexander Skarsgård Lands First Endorsement Deal with Calvin Klein

June 11, 2012

I’ve been wondering when Alexander Skarsgård would get his first endorsement deal.  After all he is one of the most sought after actors since making a big splash as the powerful vampire Eric Northman on the HBO hit series True Blood. The dashing Swede has been dubbed the face of Calvin Klein’s new men’s fragrance Encounter Calvin Klein, which launches in the U.K. in late August, followed by a global release in September.

Skarsgård tells Women’s Wear Daily’s Julie Naughton that the decision to make Encounter Calvin Klein his first endorsement deal was because of model Lara Stone, who stars in the campaign with him and past jobs with Steven Klein, who shot the campaign.  It is a well-known fact that the actor started his career as a model.

“Their idea for their concept was very intriguing to me — it was almost like a short film, and very film noir. It felt interesting to me,” he said of the TV campaign and print ad. “I wanted to be involved with something where you tell a story — even though it’s a short story,” says Skarsgård.

The first image from the campaign, which rolls out in print, digital and on television in September features a steel eyed Skarsgård bathed in a bluish, greenish light, and a second image of him and Lara Stone behind him. It’s very befitting of his image as the mysterious and badass Eric Northman.

So what will Encounter Calvin Klein smell like? The cologne will have top notes of mandarin, cardamom and rum; middle notes of pepper, Egyptian jasmine, patchouli and cognac, and base notes of agarwood, atlas cedarwood and musk.
The dark blue flacon will come in three sizes – 1 oz. for $40, 1.7 oz. for $58 and 3.4 oz. for $72 – as well as a a 3.4-oz. aftershave spray, $50; a 75-g. deodorant, $20, and a 152-g. allover body spray for $15. Calvin Klein will also make available an aftershave balm and hair and body wash that will be available globally except for the U.S.
