In the fashion game, InStyle.com Senior Fashion Editor, Violet Gaynor has been running laps around many insiders for years. With over 10 years of experience at prominent magazines doing everything from styling, market work and editing to revamping online companions to some of your favorite magazines, this Jill-of-all-trades has the lowdown on what it truly means to be a style star and a trendsetter.

If you subscribe to InStyle’s effortless and fun to read email alerts, you’ll see how Violet really gets women in their 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond; offering insights into what to wear when, where, why and how, accessories and clothing to vamp up your wardrobe, how to solve hair and beauty dilemmas and even insights into some Hollywood’s best kept fashion and beauty secrets.  She gives us her top five picks of spring must haves, including a Zara messenger bag that is going to make its way to my apartment come Friday.

ALEXANDER WANG ENGINEERED STRIPE DRESS
Every season, I seem to want every single piece Alexander Wang sends down the runway. For spring, his sporty-chic lineup was the perfect combination of sexy and strong. For work, I’ll tone down the body-con style of this dress with a neutral blazer and flats.

EDDIE BORGO CRYSTAL CONE EARRINGS
There’s something so ultra-feminine about these pave crystal-encrusted earrings. The cone shape, a signature of designer Eddie Borgo, gives them a little edge. I love that they’ll look just as chic with jeans and a tee as they will with an evening dress. An added bonus: rose gold flatters a variety of skin tones by adding a bit of a warm glow to your complexion.

DVF ELAN COLORBLOCK WEDGES
These wedges incorporate two of my favorite spring trends: bold color and an exaggerated, leg-elongating ankle strap.

MADEWELL TRUE LOVE SHRUNKEN OXFORD
Pretty pastels were everywhere on the spring runways. These crisp Oxfords in cotton candy colors will work double-duty this spring and summer—I’ll wear them with my favorite white jeans and as a cover-up at the beach.

ZARA VINYL MESSENGER BAG
The clear vinyl will force me to seriously edit the contents of my handbag—only my prettiest lipsticks, compacts, and leopard-print wallet will make the cut.
