One of the most elegant hair styles worn the world over is the bun, an easy up-do that instantly glams up any look for day or night.  Over the years, this hair style has manifested itself into different variations for both long and short hair.  Whether sleek or messy, one trick we all need to learn is how to easily make your own donut to insert into your ponytail for a perfect bun.  This can be achieve by cutting the foot of a tube sock and rolling it into a donut then covering it with opaque pantyhose that closely matches your hair.  You can also buy a ‘bun donut’ at the hair supply store for $2.

Singer Carrie Underwood looked stunning at the American Country Awards in a fantastic low chignon that can easily be done at home to spruce up your look for holiday parties.  Celebrity stylist, Sherri Jessee shares tips and tricks on how even women with shorter hair can acheive this look.

  • Distribute an egg sized amount of a bodifying mousse through out and blow dry your hair.  To create volume, roll your hair on large electric rollers.
  • When they cool, take the rollers out and brush. For extra height, tease the top lightly. Smooth back loosely into a low pony and tie off with a covered elastic band.
  • Here’s the trick to make the perfect bun fast and easy: use a “bun donut.”  Insert your ponytail through the center of the foam donut. Lock donut in place with hair pins. Tuck sections of the the pony around the donut and secure underneath with a few more pins.
  • Allow a few soft tendrils to drop out and gently sweep your fringe to one side and spray with Rusk Deepshine Oil Firm Holding Hairspray for maximum shine and control.
