Capital Club Annual Viriginia Gold Cup Steeplechase Party

May 10, 2011

Over 25,000 Washingtonians and out-of-towners headed to Great Meadow in the Plains, Virginia for the 86th running of the Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase race.  Hailed as one of the can’t miss social events in our nation’s capital, yours truly and a few friends from New York City made the trip down South.  The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for the occasion.  Ladies in fabulous frocks, perfectly pedicured feet in open-toed wedges and flats were joined by equally gorgeous gentlemen in festive pants, well-coordinated suits, blue blazers and bright pastels in honor of the Spring races.  Kenton Magazine, Entertainista, The Fabulous Report and Kitten Lounge came along for the weekend’s festivities.

Capital Club, a member’s only Washington social club, once again provided bus service to the horse race, where two tents were set-up with private catering for the day. With prosecco in hand, we proceeded to scout the two Capital Club tents for best dressed men and women to gift with more than $500 worth of prizes each.  One theme we noticed throughout the day was that yellow was the power color for girls. Many choose a black/yellow or black/nude combination.  The gentlemen did not disappoint in their dressing either.

Above, news reporter Sasha Horne looked chic in a yellow sheath dress, cinched at the waist with a medium belt.  Powell/Tate’s Brooke Henderson‘s strapless yellow frock with white piping was also a runner in the best dressed contest.  She is here with entrepreneur and Deputy Chief of Staff to Florida Governor Rick Scott, Fritz Brogan, who showed off his custom made Lucchese cowboy boots.  Andrew Bird’s A-Tisket-A-Tasket-A golf pants, which he got from Loud Mouth Golf, was a candidate for the Most Spirited category. We also loved Matt’s lime green Lilly Pulitzer pants.  Ryan O’Dwyer and his date coordinated their outfits.  She in a yellow tank dress and he with light green pants, a blue shirt and a yellow and navy belt accenting his ensemble.

A special thank you to Capital Club president Win Huffman for all the hard work and showing all the bloggers that came down from New York City a great time.

Another thank you to Eric Javits for the gorgeous black and white hat and Carolee for the 72-inch pearl strands and Martin Webster for the gorgeous bracelet that secured my necklace in place.
